National Academies Tour with Chinese Researchers

On April 5, 2006, AirUCI hosted a visit from representatives of the National Academy of Engineering and the California Air Resources Board. They brought with them representatives from:

  • the Chinese Academy of Sciences
  • the Chinese Academy of Engineering
  • the city of Huainan, China
  • the city of Dalian, China

The visit was included as part of a tour hosted by the National Academies, who are engaged in a joint project with the Chinese National Academy of Engineering to assist Chinese cities in addressing their energy and air pollution challenges based on U.S. experiences. They are particularly interested in how the cities of Pittsburgh and Los Angeles have worked to improve air quality.

A key element of this joint project is the role science plays in setting air quality standards, understanding atmospheric processes to develop control strategies, and the development of cleaner technologies.
