Abbatt lecture

Event Date:
Friday, January 19, 2018

On Friday, January 19, 2018 at 4:00 pm, AirUCI Fulbright Scholar Jonathan Abbatt will present a lecture in the Jenkins Room (Croul Hall 3101) entitled "Aerosol in the Arctic Summertime: Particle Formation and Growth, Clouds, and Melting Sea Ice".  All are invited.  Arctic Haze is a well known springtime phenomenon wherein high levels of aerosol are prevalent in polar regions due to efficient transport and slow deposition.  This talk will contrast Arctic Haze to the case of summertime Arctic aerosol where new field measurements demonstrate that particle nucleation and growth are common, likely driven by ocean-atmosphere interactions and leading to effects on cloud properties.  With melting sea ice, the role of the biology and the ocean in these phenomena is likely to grow stronger.
