Study Co-Authored by AirUCI Researchers on Causes of Worst Fire Years Featured in Multiple News Outlets
A recent paper in Science Advances from the research group of AirUCI faculty member James Randerson was featured in multiple news outlets, including a segment on NPR. The study looks at the mechanisms that drive the variability and trends in large fires, finding that a fire with multiple points of ignition that merge creates blazes that "spread faster and persist longer than single-ignition fires, and disproportionately contribute to extreme fire years..."
