Dr. Mark England is an Assistant Professor of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine. He was previously a Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Senior Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. His research focuses on using climate models to understand the drivers and impacts of climate change, with a particular emphasis on polar regions and their global influence. He leads MethaneMIP, an international collaboration investigating the climate and health benefits of methane mitigation.

Research Interests:
  • Using climate models and large ensembles to understand the causes and impacts of rapid polar climate change
  • Investigating the role of internal climate variability in observed and projected climate trends
  • Applying a hierarchy of climate models to identify key processes driving polar and global climate change
  • Quantifying the climate and air quality benefits of methane mitigation using multi-model comparisons
