Below is a list of past events related to AirUCI (sorted with the most recent first).

AirUCI PIs Sergey Nizkorodov and Eric Saltzman are organizing this conference in conjunction with the California Air Resources Board. The main goal of the event is to share scientific knowledge and foster collaborations between research communities and air pollution management agencies in Southern California.

Invited speakers include:

  • Prof. Cort Anastasio (UC Davis, Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources)
  • Prof. Ronald Cohen (UC Berkeley, Department of Chemistry)
  • Prof. Donald Dabdub (UC Irvine, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering)
  • Prof. Michael Prather (UC Irvine, Department of Earth System Science)

Contact Prof. Nizkorodov (949-824-1262, nizkorod@uci.edu) or Melissa Sweet (949-824-2628, msweet@uci.edu) to register for this all-day event.

Event Date: Wednesday, January 19, 2011 to Thursday, January 20, 2011

Do you want to know what causes the Santa Ana Mountains to disappear from view on hot, sunny days?

Would you like to learn how scientists measure the amounts of air pollutants in the air you breathe?

Are you curious to know how the molecular properties of these air pollutants are calculated?

Do you want to simulate the effect of removing all cars from local highways to see how it affects the air quality in the Los Angeles basin?

If you are intrigued by these questions and concerned about our environment, sign up for the training and outreach program in Environmental Chemistry for Science teachers at UCI.

You will have access to modern instrumental analysis and computer laboratories under the guidance of professional researchers from the AirUCI Environmental Molecular Sciences Institute at UC Irvine.

You will visit cutting-edge research laboratories while using modern analytical instruments and computer packages for environmental research.

A deposit of $50 is required to hold your space in class, which will be refunded upon completion of the course. For those who must cancel before the class begins, this deposit is refundable up to two weeks before the start date.

For those with hypersensitivities to chemicals, please note that time is spent in laboratories each day, though we've only had one participant who had an issue with this in all the years we've held the course.

Come and share the excitement of scientific discoveries with us!

AirUCI hosted a talk by Dr. Tadeusz E. Kleindienst, research scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, on June 3, 2010 entitled "Use of Molecular Tracers for Estimating Secondary Organic Aerosol Concentrations in Sub-Micron Particulate Matter".

Event Date: Thursday, June 3, 2010

This event allowed ORU team members to review the research being conducted by the diverse groups and develop additional collaborative projects.

Event Date: Wednesday, May 19, 2010

AirUCI's Sergey Nizkorodov was the featured speaker on April 29 at a seminar in Irvine, CA presented by TSI, Inc., the leading manufacturer of aerosol measurement equipment. To view a copy of the invitation, click here.
