2013 Annual Teacher Workshop
Fri, 06/21/2013 - Wed, 07/03/2013
AirUCI's ninth annual Teacher Workshop will be held June 21 – July 3, 2013 on the UCI campus. View the class website
We are honored that our program has been cited as exemplary by a committee of the National Academy of Sciences, and that we've been highlighted in their publication entitled Strengthening High School Chemistry Education through Teacher Outreach Programs where the vital importance of public school chemistry teachers is discussed.
This is an intensive Environmental Chemistry program, geared for science teachers in grades 9-12. We can accept 20 teachers into the class per year. Priority is given to teachers in districts local to UC Irvine and to high school teachers. View the brochure
The course includes morning lectures presented by leading researchers in the field of Atmospheric Chemistry and afternoon environmental analysis projects in our labs. Watch Dr. Laux teach one of our classes
For those with hypersensitivities to chemicals, please note that time is spent in laboratories each day, though we've only had one participant who had an issue with this in all the years we've held the course.

The class is open to any qualifying teacher, but unfortunately AirUCI cannot provide assistance with lodging or transportation. For teachers outside our area, here is a list of local hotels that offer UCI rates, but we cannot make these arrangements.
Attending teachers receive:
- A $1,000 stipend
- University credit through UCI Extension
- Textbook valued at $140
- Class materials in print and CD format
- Lunch each day
- Free parking valued at $80
- Access to AirUCI researchers as a resource
For details about the workshop, please contact Professor Sergey Nizkorodov at 949-824-1262 or Melissa Sweet at 949-824-2628.
