The 40th Annual Informal Gathering on Atmospheric Science and Photochemistry (IGASP), formerly ISKPPA, will be held at UC San Diego on October 4th, 2024.  Numerous AirUCI researchers will attend the conference and present their research findings. AirUCI faculty Andrea de Vizcaya Ruiz will be among the presenters at the fall regional meeting of the Southern California Chapter of the Society of Toxicology (SCCSOT). This year’s meeting, themed “Modern Perspectives in Toxicology,” will be held October 3, 2024 at Edwards Life Sciences in Irvine, CA.  Andrea will present the findings from our collaborative brakes and tires project. On October 3rd, AirUCI will host a visit from Dr. Yaowei Li of NOAA who will visit with AirUCI researchers and give a talk entitled, "New Insights into Aerosol Properties, Perturbations, and Radiative Effects in the Stratosphere and Upper Troposphere".  The lecture will be held at 3:00 pm in Rowland Hall room 390.

AirUCI Project Scientists Dr. Lisa Wingen and Dr. Veronique Perraud have organized regular meetings to discuss using the IGOR lab apparatus after a very successful meeting in late August.  The goal is to hold these tutorials on the first Tuesday of each month through December, with the first meeting to be held on October 1st from 3-4 pm in Rowland Hall room 390.

AirUCI faculty Mike Dennin will participate in an online event to launch UCI's Year of Scholarly Values in a panel discussion to address some of the main issues raised by this campuswide theme. What are the scholarly values? How should we go about promoting them? What challenges do we face as a university when it comes to cultivating scholarly values? On August 8th the annual UC Irvine SoCal Undergraduate Chemistry Symposium was held at the ISEB.  This all-day event is a presentation of the latest in chemistry research conducted by undergrads, and three of AirUCI's students in the Finlayson-Pitts group participated:  Katelyn Pacaud, Mariam Parvinian, and Ellie Wingen.  All three had quite a lot of interest in their poster presentations among symposium attendees.

Event Date: Fri, 07/12/2024

On July 12th AirUCI will host a visit from high school students from the ALMA Academy in Santa Ana.  ALMA is an educational organization under GREEN-MPNA, AirUCI's non-profit partner.  About a dozen of their science students will tour five of our labs in Chemistry and ESS and will hear presentations about our research projects.

At 1:00 pm Pacific Time on Monday, July 8th, NASA Astronaut Tracy Caldwell Dyson will Zoom with AirUCI from the International Space Station to answer questions we have compiled.  Tracy is an honorary member and alumna of AirUCI and is on her third trip to space.  She launched in late March for a six-month mission aboard the ISS.  Coordinating the schedule with NASA is a bit tricky, so while this date is fairly firm it could be postponed.  Check back here for updates!  ...

On June 19th AirUCI Co-Director Sergey Nizkorodov will give a talk as a featured speaker in the American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) Lecture Series.  The lecture is entitled "Light-absorbing products of atmospheric oxidation of indole by hydroxyl radical, nitrate radical and ozone".  This is a virtual presentation to be held at 4 pm Pacific Time.  Details and registration
