On April 22nd, UCI's ESS department will host a visit from Dr. Chi Li, Staff Scientist in the Atmospheric Composition Analysis Group at Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  The talk will be held at| 2 pm in Reines Hall room 3101 and is entitled "Advances in characterizing air pollution from modeling, observations, and machine learning".  Details

AirUCI will host a group of Environmental Chemistry undergraduate students from Pepperdine University on April 17th.  Their professor is Jane Ganske, a former postdoc in the Finlayson-Pitts lab and current collaborator on some of our research projects,

On April 17th, AirUCI faculty Jim Randerson will host a visit by Dr. Qindan Zhu of UCAR in Boulder, CO.   The talk will be held at 2 pm in Reines Hall room 3101 and is entitled "Decoding Urban Ozone Pollution: Emissions, Chemistry and Policy Implications".  Details

Event Date: Mon, 04/15/2024

On April 15th AirUCI's AAAR Student Chapter will host a visit from Dr. Jamy Lee of MilliporeSigma in Madison, WI.  She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022 specializing in single-particle mass spectrometry, meteorological modeling, and particle characterization techniques to study the composition of particles emitted from fires. Dr. Lee currently works as an Analytical Development Scientist.  They will hold a coffee social for AAAR attendees who might like to speak to her about her work and career path.  The event will be held in RH 390 from 11 - noon.

On April 15th, UCI's ESS department will host a visit from Dr. Kamal Chandrakar, Project Scientist in the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Laboratory at National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).  The talk will be held at| 2 pm in Reines Hall room 3101 and is entitled "Multiscale perspectives on aerosol-cloud-turbulence interactions from laboratory experiments, theory, and numerical simulations".  Details

AirUCI's AAAR Student Chapter is hosting their next meeting on April 4th from 1 - 2:30 in Rowland Hall 390 with the following speakers and topics:Yinting Chiu (Carlton Group) "Elucidating Chloride Interferences in the Total Organic Carbon Analyzer" and Kasey Edwards (Shiraiwa Group) "Residential Wood Burning and Vehicle Emissions as Major Sources of Environmentally Persistent Free Radicals in Fairbanks, Alaska".  The internal seminars are a great way for students, postdocs, and project scientists to come together and hear peers present their research in a friendly, informal environment....

AirUCI Co-Director Sergey Nizkorodov was among the organizers for the Molecular-Level Understanding of Atmospheric Aerosols (MUOAA 2024) workshop and school (opens in a new tab) which took place April 1-5, 2024 in Corsica Island, France.  Among the attendees were AirUCI Project Scientists Lisa Wingen and Veronique Perraud.  The workshop gathered scientists from around the world who are studying atmospherically relevant aerosols at a fundamental level in the laboratory, in the field, and via advanced modelling techniques (...

Event Date: Fri, 03/22/2024

AirUCI faculty Alex Guenther will host Dr. Eliane Alves of Max Planck, Jena who will be visiting on Friday, March 22nd and will give an informal presentation in Croul Hall room 1103 at 2 pm.  Dr. Alves will speak on her recent work on Biogenic volatile organic compounds in the Amazon utilizing Proton Transfer Reaction – Mass Spectrometry and other studies.  She will also meet with AirUCI researchers and tour some of our labs.

On February 13th, AirUCI faculty Jun Wu was interviewed about her recent study linking air pollution to depression during and after pregnancy. Her team examinies the influences of various environmental exposures (including air pollution; climate; and built environments such as green space, neighborhood resources, and walkability) on reproductive outcomes (maternal and fetal health), children’s health, and other health endpoints. On February 7th AirUCI will host a visit from Prof. Jiachen Zhang of USC who will be giving an ESS seminar.  He previously served at CARB and is interested in speaking with AirUCI members and seeing our labs.
