Professor Joost de Gouw of the University of Colorado, Boulder Department of Chemistry will visit AirUCI on February 18th. Hosted by AirUCI co-Director Barbara Finlayson-Pitts, Dr. de Gouw will meet with AirUCI researchers and hear presentations on our research in Rowland Hall room 390 at noon. He will also give the Physical Chemistry Seminar on Tuesday at 3:30 in Rowland Hall room 104 entitled "Urban Air Quality in the Anthropocene".

To celebrate Valentine's Day, AirUCI's AAAR student chapter is holding a get-together on February 14th from 3-5 pm in Rowland Hall 386. They're calling this "Coffee Fixes Everything" and are providing cocoa and pastries as well. This is a chance to talk informally about various AirUCI research projects with members of our team.
AirUCI Project Scientists Dr. Lisa Wingen and Dr. Veronique Perraud have organized regular meetings for reesarchers to discuss using the Igor lab apparatus.. The next meeting will be held on November 5th from 3:30 - 5:30 pm in Rowland Hall room 390.
On January 28th, AirUCI faculty Sarah Finkeldei and Jack Brouwer will be the featured speakers at the annual Physical Sciences Energy Lecture to be held from 8:30 to 10:00 am in the UCI Foundation office. The Energy Lecture features cutting-edge research on clean and abundant energy solutions that are free and open to the public. Sarah is an expert in nuclear energy conversion methods and nuclear waste, while Jack's expertise is in renewable energy systems, especially electrolyzers and batteries, as well as hydrogen fuel cells, production, storage, and conversion systems. Dr. Tracy Dyson, NASA Astronaut and a former postdoctoral scholar in Chemistry at UCI, has completed three voyages in space,most recently this summer. Tracy is returning to UCI to share her experiences in a public lecture at the Beckman Center adjacent to the UC Irvine campus.

On December 8-9th, AirUCI faculty Benny Gerber was honored with a symposium at Hebrew University of Jerusalem to celebrate his 80th birthday and remarkable career. The "BennyFEST" event was primarily organized by Dr. Barak HIrshberg, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Tel Aviv University and longtime collaborator with Benny and other AirUCI researchers. It was a hugely successful event with numerous lectures and posters, good food, and — most importantly — great science.

On December 6th, AirUCI faculty Rufus Edwards will host a visit from Dr. Jay Turner, Professor of Energy, Environmental and Chemical Engineering at the McKelvey School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He also serves as the James McKelvey Professor of Engineering Education, Vice Dean for Education, and inaugural Head of the Division of Engineering Education. The goal is to hold these tutorials on the first Tuesday of each month through December, with the final meeting to be held on December 3rd from 3-4 pm in Rowland Hall room 390.
AirUCI's Internal Seminar meetings are beginning for the 2024-25 school year. All meetings will be held in Rowland Hall room 390. The kickoff meeting is on November 21st from 12:30 to 1:30.
