AirUCI Fulbright Fellow Patrick Ayotte (Universite de Sherbrooke, Quebec) will present a Physical Chemistry lecture on Tuesday, February 1st at 3:30 pm.  This will be a hybrid event on Livestream and based in ISEB room 1010 (masks required).  His talk is entitled "Shining light, and beams of molecules, to look at (Photo)chemistry on ice."  Details         Livestream Link

Prof. Jason S. Olfert from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta will give a seminar hosted by AirUCI on Wednesday, December 22, 12 at noon.  The lecture will be held in Rowland Hall room 390 and on Zoom (Zoom info will be sent closer to the date) and is entitled  "Beyond particle mobility classifiers: Classifying particles by mass or relaxation time".

AirUCI Co-Director Sergey Nizkorodov is co-organizing a symposium entitled “Chemistry of Atmospheric Aerosols” at the Pacifichem 2021 Congress to be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on December 16-21, 2021. Co-organizers include:

AirUCI's Internal Symposium group has scheduled their next meeting for December 16th, 2021 from 12:30 to 1:30.  This will be a hybrid meeting held in Rowland Hall room 390 and also via Zoom https://uci.zoom.us/j/99138396039.  These meetings for grad students, postdocs, and project scientists are an excellent opportunity to practice presentations, to learn about AirUCI-related research, and to form collaborations among the AirUCI labs.  Dr. Veronique Perraud from the Finlayson-Pitts group will be presenting, "A tale of two amines: nanoparticles characterization from the reaction of methanesulfonic acid with methylamine and ethanolamine."  Also, Lia Dam from the Smith group will be presenting, "If a tree sighs in the night: observations of gas-phase products from the nitrate radical-initiated oxidation of four monoterpenes in a chamber study."  This will be the last seminar for Fall quarter, so please look out for information regarding Winter quarter talks.

Audrey Odwuor from the Czimczik and Randerson groups will be presenting, "Using radiocarbon measurements of PM2.5 to constrain fuel consumption in western U.S. wildfires."  In addition, Bishop Bliss from the Kleinman group will be presenting, “Development and Analysis of Resuspended Particulate Matter for Whole Body Rodent Exposure.”

AirUCI's Internal Symposium group has scheduled their first autumn meeting for October 14th, 2021 from 12:30 to 1:30.  This will be a hybrid meeting held in Rowland Hall room 390 and also via Zoom.  These meetings for grad students, postdocs, and project scientists are an excellent opportunity to practice presentations, to learn about AirUCI-related research, and to form collaborations among the AirUCI labs.  Adam Thomas from the Smith Group will be presenting, "Size-resolved molecular characterization of secondary organic nanoparticles by ultrahigh resolution mass spectrometry" and Alyssa Burns from the Carlton Group will be presenting, "Characterization of salt effects on water-soluble organic gas partitioning."

AirUCI Associate Researcher Murat Aydin will present an Earth System Science lecture on October 13th at 3:30 pm in the Jenkins Room (Reines Hall room 310).  The talk is entitled "Atmospheric carbonyl sulfide for the last 52,500 years from a South Pole ice core" and can also be attended in the Virtual Meeting Room | MID 912 0170 3900.

On Wednesday, October 13th, AirUCI's AAAR student chapter is hosting a practice event for the upcoming AAAR Fall Meeting 2021 from 2:00-3:00 pm in Rowland Hall room 390.  For those who are registered to give a presentation at the meeting, this is an opportunity to practice before an audience.  Please come prepared to practice your 1-2 minute elevator pitch that you will prepare for the live component of the meeting.  Bring your computer devices if you plan to show slides.
 
For those who are not a presenter, you are invited to come support our speakers and to have an opportunity to hear about their research, especially if you are not attending the workshop (which is fully virtual).  For additional details, contact the AAARSC at aaarsc@uci.edu.

AirUCI's AAAR student chapter will host an outdoor, in-person welcome back social to kick off the new school year.  This event is to be held on Thursday, September 30th from 4 - 6 PM in the Natural Sciences II Courtyard.  Students and other researchers are invited to come meet friends and colleagues over snacks, drinks, and games.
